Provided by Cass County Sheriff Department

Nellie, pictured above, is a trained bloodhound with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department. This marks the second occasion in the last month that the dog has helped track down a missing elderly person. In this case Michael Cox of Casspolis had been missing for approximately 4 hours before he was found.

You can find the full release from the department below:

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports that on 8/11/19 at 9pm his Deputies responded to the 26000 block of M60, in Jefferson Twp, for a missing 70 year old male.  Michael Cox of Cassopolis had walked away from his home and had not returned. His caretaker was concerned due to his medical issues.  Mr. Cox had been missing since 7:45 pm and his friends and Sheriff’s deputies were unsuccessful in the search for him in the wooded area around the home.  Deputy Graves and Nellie were called in to assist in the search.  At 11:50 pm, approximately 4 hrs after Mr. Cox went missing, Deputy Graves and Nellie located him, in the woods, laying behind some thick brush.  Mr. Cox was medically cleared by Life Care Ambulance personnel and was returned home.
