Dawn Jones, one of eight candidates for the position, was chosen by special caucus on Thursday night. The position was left open by Kareemah Fowler as she stepped down to take a job with South Bend Schools in July.
Jones is guaranteed to service in her position through the end of the year, but there will have to be another caucus held in January. Fowler will be re-elected for her former position in November because she was already on the ballot, and was uncontested. This means that they will have to go through the formal process again.
