Unemployment rate in St. Joseph, Elkhart Counties inches up

While the statewide unemployment rate dropped, as a whole, the local figures increased a bit.

The jobless rate in St. Joseph County was 4% in July, compared to 3.7% in June.

In Elkhart County, the rate jumped up to 3.6%, from 3% the month before. That rate is nearly a full point higher compared to a year ago.

Statewide, the July Employment Report for Indiana showed the jobless rate dropped to 3.4%, which is lower than the national rate of 3.7%.
