Cass County Sheriff deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash Wednesday morning.

It happened just before 6:30 a.m. on Corwin St. near Green Lake Rd in Wayne Township.

Officials found the vehicle on its passenger side after hitting a tree.

The 81 year-old driver, who is from Dowagiac, was extricated from the vehicle and taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial. She had reportedly fallen asleep behind the wheel while returning home from running an errand.

She was wearing her seat-belt and her airbag deployed.
