Several South Bend Schools Run Out of Food; District Investigating

Students at several South Bend Schools have gone without food this week after those schools reportedly just ran out.

School Superintendent Todd Cummings confirmed the problem, and has said they’ve already sent a special team to investigate. In one case a student reported being given only a small handful of tortilla chips for lunch.

Cummings says this reinforces the district’s decision to go with an outside food service vendor, but that vendor doesn’t take over until October. Right now the district operates its own food service.

Cummings told the South Bend Tribune that students deserve better and they will adjust how things are done to hopefully stop the issue in the meantime.
