Three females were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. All three were later released, though one of the victims returned, later, due to complications.

It is believed the shooting may have stemmed from a fight between two groups of females.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.

On September 21, 2019 at 3:52 a.m., South Bend Police Department (SBPD) officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Cedar St. for multiple reports of shots fired and someone possibly shot.  When SBPD arrived, they found 4 people shot, 3 female and one male.  The male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The three females were transported to the hospital, all three with non-life threatening injuries.

All three females were initially treated and released from the hospital; however, one of the females was later transported back to the hospital by ambulance when she started experiencing complications from her injuries (her current condition is not known at this time).

The  deceased victim has been positively identified as Edward Lavelle McCurry (M/B,34 years of age) of South Bend. An autopsy for Mr. McCurry is scheduled for Monday,   September 23rd at 10:00 a.m. in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
