A man who entered a guilty plea in a fatal Benton Harbor love triangle received his sentence Monday afternoon.

Jeremy Cuellar was given 65 to 90 years in prison for the death of Tyrone Hassel III, who was shot and killed on New Year’s Eve in front of his father’s home.

Cuellar pleaded guilty to second degree murder in an agreement. Court records state that he was having an affair with Tyrone’s wife Kemia Hassel, and the murder was an attempt at getting their hands on the victim’s insurance money and military benefits. All three of them were in the Army at the time.

Kemia was sentenced to life in prison last month. The victim’s family read impact statements at Cuellar’s sentencing hearing.
