An Indiana State Trooper saved a woman’s life in Lake County with the help of a number of motorists around him at a stoplight.

Shortly before 5 p.m. Sgt. Dan Avitia was in a turn lane waiting on a red light to turn onto US 30 when other drivers honked their horns.

This drew his attention to a woman in an SUV who was choking. The 41 year-old Crown Point woman had been eating tacos while driving and the Trooper was able to clear her airway.

An ambulance was called to check her out and she was able to drive away on her own.
