A man was arrested in South Bend on Sunday for allegedly beating another man with a tire iron.

Police were called to a home in the 1900 block of E. Randolph Street on reports of a fight involving weapons on Saturday, Sept. 21, according to ABC 57.

A man and woman were both found at the home. The man was bleeding from his arm, and also had injuries to his head and body.

The man told police he had picked up his niece and brought her to his home, as she was having issues with a man named Lyle Francis.

Francis, 30, entered the home shortly after their arrival and threatened to harm them. That’s when the man grabbed a knife and started chasing Francis out of his home.

Police report Francis ran to his car, grabbed a tire iron and struck the man multiple times. A witness also reports seeing Francis strike the man.

Following the incident, police were able to locate Francis, who admitted to striking the man, but denied entering the home. He also had a tire iron in his car.

Francis was arrested the following morning and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail on Suspicion of Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon and Residential Entry.

Francis was currently on pretrial release for Resisting Law Enforcement and Carrying a Handgun without a Permit.

He is due back in court on October 1.
