Construction projects that could slow traffic this week in Michiana

IN ST. JOSEPH COUNTY

(NEW) Jackson Road in St. Joe County is closed from Miami Street to York Road. It should re-open in mid-October. Your detours are Miami Street or York Road via Kern Road. (ends 10/15)

(NEW) The 331 Bridge over the Yellow River in Bremen is closed for a superstructure replacement project and will be through early November. The detour involves US 6, US 31, and the US 20 Bypass. (Ends early Nov.)

(NEW) Concrete work continues on the U.S. 20 Bypass in St. Joe County. Crews have closed ramps at Ironwood. Mainline work is also underway from Clover Road to US 31, with one lane closed in each direction. (Ends 10/18)

(NEW) Paving is underway on State Road 23 between Bittersweet Road and Park Forest Drive, with flaggers directing traffic. (Ends 10/18)

IN SOUTH BEND

(NEW) Carriage Hills Drive is closed from Darden Road to Cobblestone Court for installation of a new sewer system. (Ends 10/17)

(NEW) Jefferson Boulevard is closed from Lafayette Boulevard to Williams Street. Detour routes will be Washington Street or Wayne Street via Lafayette Boulevard or Williams Street. (Ends 10/11)

(NEW) Western Avenue is closed from Dundee Street to Falcon Street until mid-November for ongoing road replacement. (ends 11/15)

(NEW) The Wayne Street and Leighton Plaza Parking Garages is undergoing maintenance work. Work will include structural concrete repairs, sealant repairs, new painting and striping. Daily parkers will not be impacted by this work as the majority of it will take place overnight. (ends 11/15)

(NEW) Part of Woodlawn Avenue is closed in the 1200 block for a leak repair on a water line. (TBA)

Traffic on Cleveland Road is down to one lane from Portage Road to 933. (end TBA)

Eddy Street is closed from Napoleon Boulevard to Howard Street. St. Vincent Street between Frances Street and Georgiana Avenue is also closed. Detours are set up. (ends late 2019)

IN MISHAWAKA

(NEW) There are southbound lane restrictions on Bremen Highway between Ireland Road and the bypass as crews install a new right turn lane. Southbound traffic is reduced to one lane. (ends 10/18)

(NEW) Traffic is down to one lane in each direction on Capital Avenue between Harrison Road and Jefferson Boulevard thanks to a drainage project. That should wrap up in November. (ends 11/2019)

(NEW) Watch for lane restrictions and flaggers on Capital Avenue between Lincolnway East to just south of the railroad overpass. (ends 10/23)

(The project on 12th Street in Mishawaka is going to take a bit longer. The city now says the road will be closed from Capital Avenue to Byrkit Street until Thanksgiving, though you’ll still have access to local businesses. (Ends mid-Nov)

It’s down to east and west traffic only at the intersection of Somerset and Milburn. Somerset is closed between Delaware and Milburn and Milburn and Sixth for tree removal, utility work, and sidewalk & pavement work. (ends 11/1)

Elmwood Avenue is closed west of 331 for a road realignment project and utility upgrades. Watch for detours and road crews. (Ends Nov 27)

IN ELKHART

(NEW for 10/7) Harrison Street is closed from 9th Street to 10th Street for a sewer repair. (ends 10/21)

(NEW) Watch for traffic restrictions on Lexington and Main Streets in Elkhart during the demolition of an unsafe building on South Main. Lexington is closed from Main to the alley between Main and 2nd. (Ends 11/20)

IN ELKHART COUNTY

(NEW) INDOT has shutting down several bridges on US 20 and State Road 19 for rehab. Each project will take about a week and include bridges between County Roads 17 and 26, as well as the bridge on State Road 19 in that area in the city of Elkhart. (Ends Mid-October)

(NEW) State Road 19 in Elkhart County has lane restrictions between Willowdale Avenue and the state line. This is for resurfacing and you can expect delays and flaggers. (Ends 10/31)

(NEW) State Road 13 is closed for the next stage of the bridge deck overlay with detours using US 6, State Road 5, and US 20. (Ends Mid-October)

IN BERRIEN COUNTY

(NEW) Resurfacing is underway on Red Arrow Highway between Browntown and Sawyer Roads, and on John Beers between the Yellow Creek bridge and Edison Road. (IDE-son, not Edison) (Ends TBA)

IN LAPORTE COUNTY

(NEW for 10/7) INDOT has traffic down to one lane at the US 12 Bridge over Trail Creek in Michigan City to remove the center Median. Look for delays between Michigan Boulevard and the Blue Chip Casino through the end of the month. (Ends 10/31)

(NEW for 10/7) INDOT has closed a section of U.S. 421 near the Indiana Toll Road for a resurfacing project. (Ends 10/13)

(NEW) The closure of U.S. 20 is now extended from Oak Knoll north to County Road 600 East. Crews will be working on the shoulder and installing a center turn lane as part of the ongoing “dogbone intersection” project. (Ends 10/21)

Construction has lane restrictions and closures at U.S. 20 and State Road 2 in Rolling Prairie (ends 11/15/2019)

It’s down to one lane in each direction on U.S. 20 between Woodland Avenue and Johnson Road in Michigan City until mid-October.

IN MARSHALL COUNTY

(NEW) INDOT is closing lanes on the State Road 331 bridge over US 30 in Bourbon. This is for a bridge deck overlay project. Watch for a temporary signal. (Ends late November)

Resurfacing is underway on State Rd 117 in Marshall County. INDOT will have that down to one lane with flaggers between State Roads 10 and 110 through October.

IN KOSCIUSKO COUNTY

(NEW) INDOT has lane restrictions on US 30 for intersection improvements at Anchorage Road and Parker Street in Warsaw, and for asphalt patching between State Roads 13 and 19 in Pierceton. (Ends late November)

INDOT is restoring concrete on State Road 15 between US 30 and Market Street in Warsaw. Watch for lane closures, stopped traffic, and trucks around the construction sites along several intersections. (Ends mid-November)

HEADED SOUTH TO INDY

And remember: If you’re headed south to Indy this weekend, plan extra time on 31 as INDOT is diverting all traffic with a crossover for repaving and construction of the new Deer Creek Bridge north of Kokomo.
