Former School Bus Driver who let students drive sentenced in Porter County

A former bus driver in Porter Township has received a sentence of two years probation after pleading guilty to neglect of a dependent.

The Northwest Indiana Times reports that Joandrea McAtee, 28, struck the deal in a case where she allowed three students to drive the school bus with other students on board in September of last year.

The students were aged 11, 13 and 17 according to court records, and the only one old enough to drive did not have the required CDL to drive a bus.

If McAtee completes her probation without incident the charge could be reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor.
