The new advisory committee for the Benton Harbor Area Schools held their first official meeting this week.

The Community Engagement Advisory Committee was formed by the schools and the State of Michigan with the purpose of turning the district’s performance and money problems.

Chairperson Joyce Parker says they will take a thorough look at information, hear from the community, and examine deficiencies. They will look to implement any changes they consider before the start of the next school year.

They plan to meet twice a month starting November 4.
