GOP leaders and Gov. Whitmer eye potential end to budget impasse

Supplemental spending bills are listed for potential votes in the House Thursday.

Whitmer vetoed an unprecedented amount of funding after being sent a budget in which she had no input following a breakdown in road-funding talks.

The Democrat says she and lawmakers are “very close” to finalizing budget bills to reverse some vetoes and fund some of her priorities. She says charter schools and advocates for autism funding should urge legislators to pass the legislation and not “play games.”

Whitmer and Republicans have been at odds over limiting her ability to unilaterally shift funds within state departments after she transferred more than $600 million.
