New Carlisle man charged with dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death

A New Carlisle man has been charged with dealing drugs that led to a man’s death.

Zachary Born, 32, is accused of providing cocaine to David Wasielewski in June 2019 on the night of his death.

According to court documents, Born admitted to police he gave him the drug and that Born was, quote, “acting crazy.”

Investigators say Born and two other people then loaded Wasielewski’s body on to a truck, covered it with a tarp, drove to the victim’s home in Rolling Prairie and left his body in the garage.

Born is already in police custody on an unrelated incident. If convicted, he could be sentenced up to 40 years.

The St. Joseph Country released the following information about Born’s charges:

St. Joseph County –The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Zachary
Born, 32, with Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death, a Level 1 Felony. He
is charged in connection with the June 2019 overdose death of David Wasielewski, and is
currently in custody in LaPorte County Jail on an unrelated matter.

Probable cause was found and he will be transported to St. Joseph County at a later date.
We will advise the general public when he has returned to St. Joseph County on this
charge.

The sentencing range for a Level 1 Felony is twenty (20) to forty (40) years.

Please be advised that the charge filed against this defendant is merely an accusation and
that he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
