Child support increase coming for some Michigan families

A change in Michigan’s 2020 fiscal year budget will give families receiving child support and cash assistance through an established program.

Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services says there will be an increase in support for an estimated 2,700 families who fit that criteria.

Governor Whitmer’s budget included nearly $1 million to support pass-through child support payments of up to $200 per month for those families.

That money can be used for food, clothing and other items for their children. An additional $2.5 million in child support is anticipated under the new plan.
