Body found in rural LaPorte County identified

The body found in water in LaPorte County’s Lincoln Township has been identified.

Police say the man is 47 year-old Joseph Clopton of Chicago. He was found around 10 a.m. Friday morning near Fish Lake in the 43 hundred block of CR 800 E near the Catch-Um Lake Bait Shop.

Clopton went missing on December 12. It’s not known how his body ended up in the pond.

Monday afternoon, police said they are investigating the case as a homicide.
