Possible SB Charter School still under discussion

The South Bend Community Schools are looking into the possibility of a charter school to be located within Washington High School.

Saturday the public had the opportunity to discuss the pending agreement that would allow for the change, which would involve a partnership with Purdue Polytechnic High School.

A number of people present at the meeting voiced concerns that the new school would not serve the students well and could have a negative impact on the community. The school corporation says the agreement remains pending.

Activists from out of town also attended the meeting to talk about their experiences with charter and innovation schools.
