Breath test questions impact cases from the Niles MSP Post

Seven drunk driving cases in Niles have been dismissed due to the unfolding scandal over Michigan’s breath alcohol testing equipment.

Some of those issues have now been tied to the Michigan State Police post in Niles, one of eight in the state with reported discrepancies.

Technicians are being investigated for failing to do the work that matches the paperwork tracking the maintenance of those machines, throwing the validity of test results into question in a number of cases.

The Michigan State Police have taken more than 200 breath testing units out of service statewide.
