The driver who pleaded guilty in a deadly crash, last summer, has been sentenced.

It’s 6 years in prison with all but two days suspended for Nicole Nelson of Edwardsburg, who, instead, will serve two years of home detention with the other four years suspended.

Nelson pleaded guilty to causing death when operating a motor vehicle with a controlled substance in her blood and reckless homicide back in December.

According to court documents, Nelson told police she was traveling south on Bittersweet when another driver cut her off.

She said she got angry and decided to pass the vehicle in a no passing zone. That’s when she struck Richard Yzaguirre’s motorcycle.

Nelson admitted smoking marijuana the night before.
