St. Joseph County police officers and the DNR are investigating an ATV crash that killed an elderly rider.

The discovery was made around 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 10.

The Coroner’s Office was called to the site of the crash, which was in a creek near Union and Poplar just southwest of Walkerton.

The DNR is involved because the vehicle was found in water.

The coroner says it’s possible the victim, an elderly male, crashed the ATV days before he was discovered, and his body showed signs of trauma from hitting tree branches before the crash.
