Travel Advisory in effect for Elkhart County

(95.3 MNC)

Hours after the announcement of the first confirmed case of coronavirus in Elkhart County, the Elkhart County Commissioners, with recommendation from the Elkhart County COVID-19 Incident Management Team, put a travel advisory in place for all of Elkhart County.

The Travel Advisory went into effect at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 21.

The advisory means that routine or unnecessary travel or activity is discouraged because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use discretion on what is necessary for daily living. With that, residents are advised to only travel for essential reasons such as work, grocery stores, dinner pick-ups, pharmacies, doctor appointments, helping and/or checking in on family members.

The local health department is working closely with the local and state officials to ensure that contacts of the county’s first patient are identified and monitored and that all infection control protocols are being followed.

The patient is currently hospitalized and no additional information about the patient will be released due to privacy laws.

The best way to protect yourself from any respiratory illness, including COVID-19 and the flu, is to:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60% or greater alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Practice social distancing (no group functions such as book clubs, meetings, and or congregations of 10 or more)
  • Stay home unless it is essential for you to go somewhere.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

The myth is, that this virus is only affecting people 60 years of age and older. Please understand, that this virus can and will affect every age group. Everyone is a target of the COVID-19 Virus.

The CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. You should only wear a mask if a healthcare professional recommends it. A facemask should be used by people who have COVID-19 and are showing symptoms to protect others from the risk of infection.

Well I see Elkhart Co. has caved in to all the scare tactics. Good job(NOT). Total lack of common sense.

Have you looked around the world David? Every country on the planet is responding to this new Kung Flu that the Chi-Coms gave us. Closing borders, martial law.

The 1918 flu pandemic (which came from China) killed more people in America than WWI and the world is technologically equipped to spread contagions far faster now.

Maybe you want to party like it’s 1998 and don’t care, if so please stay around you family and close friends as opposed to infecting random strangers.

If anything this is a moment to assess what globalization can take away from us…and why the heck are we doing business with the Chi-Coms (who are our enemies) again? Why are we funding their dreams of world domination?

Working in a grocery store is very worrisome. They said dont wear gloves. We have to close of contact and it’s a judge gathering of all ages all day long. The money is filled with germs. It’s so dirty. I never realized until seeing the proof on my gloves. On our do it yourself scanners, everyone is touching screens and the card machine etc. I touch people’s hands to give back money and receipts. I’m putting hand sanitizer on my gloves. Keeping the grocery lanes as clean as possible and belts. We have trucks coming daily so no shortage. We want to wear mask to protects ourselves but they wont let us. I believe everyone should wear them. The N95 by honeywell respirator is the only thing that works against this. There is a medicine to get from your doctor to keep you from getting it. I dont have the spelling right now. Please everyone take care of yourself. Dont leave house if sick. Our lives are in danger daily. We can stay home but not be paid. If were exposed we will be paid 14 days. I take care of my 88 yr old mother. I’m so worried of bringing it home. I think I’m going to stay home a couple weeks.
