A suspect involved in a domestic violence incident who had his 1 year old daughter in the vehicle kept police busy early Wednesday morning.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Office says the child was not buckled up, and the suspect was reported to be possibly armed and intoxicated. Due to concerns for the safety of the child, the deputies did not elect to pursue, even though the suspect crossed the line from Van Buren County at speeds over 110 miles per hour. Instead, they followed the vehicle from a distance, without lights.

That vehicle was later spotted in the area of M-139 and Pipestone in Benton Harbor. Numerous sightings and the use of a K9 officer eventually led to an arrest.

The child was unharmed and reunited with her mother. The suspect was treated for a dog bite. A handgun was found on him at the time of his arrest.
