South Bend yard waste, leaf pickup programs happening now

Two yard waste collection programs are happening now in South Bend, as they are still deemed an essential operation during Indiana’s stay-at-home order.

The City’s annual yard waste season began Wednesday, April 1 and will run through the end of November.

The program offers weekly pickup of yard waste, including grass clippings, brush and leaves.

Residents must rent a city-furnished bin, which costs $2 per month, or a total of $16 for the 2020 yard waste season. Residents can sign up for the program by clicking here or calling 311.

To protect the health and safety of drivers, extra pickups of yard waste paper bags have been temporarily suspended. Residents can still request an extra pickup for branches that are bundled or tied together.

The City’s annual Spring ReLeaf Program is also in full-swing, but is only offered on a call-in basis. Residents looking to request leaf pickup must call 311.

Requests can be submitted starting now, with pickup beginning April 6. The last day to request a leaf pickup is Friday, April 10.
