INDOT looks to reopen four bypass ramps around South Bend on Friday

(INDOT)

Some big changes are coming to the bypass around South Bend.

Starting Friday, May 8, you’ll see ramp changes and lane closures at the US 31-US 20 interchange, and on Eastbound 20. Right now the eastbound outside lane is closed from the interchange to Clover Road, and it will reopen in order to close the inside lane and begin the work.

The loops from U.S. 20 eastbound to Business 31 northbound and from Business 31 northbound to U.S. 20 westbound and the ramps from U.S. 20 eastbound to Ironwood Dr and from Ironwood Dr to U.S. 20 eastbound will all reopen.

The westbound U.S. 20 loop to southbound U.S. 31 and the southbound U.S. 31 to eastbound U.S. 20 loop will close for concrete patching. Drivers should seek an alternate route. The official detour will utilize State Road 23.

This portion of the project is expected to be completed by the end of May, 2020. All work is weather dependent.

INDOT encourages drivers to allow extra time when driving through this area. Drivers should slow down, exercise caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones.
