WNIT – PBS Michiana will air a special local production, Black Lives Matter: How did we get here? on Friday, June 5.

“Some understand the Black Lives Matter outrage being witnessed in our community and around the country because they have felt it boiling under the surface for a long time. Others do not understand why this particular act of police violence (George Floyd’s death) has brought the outcry it has. In this conversation we strive to focus less on the
current protests taking place and rather try to make sense of the things that led the black lives matter movement to this tipping point. Through this program special we hope our viewers will gain a bigger-picture view of this particular movement, ” stated Producer Joy Ngugi.

Host Michael Nixon along with guests Yemoja Redding of South Bend Black Lives Matter, filmmaker, activist and pastor Garrison Hayes and Co-Founder of We Are Sikhs & Former Obama White House Official Gurwin Ahuja will try to make sense of what led our community and country to this point.

The one hour program airs on WNIT Channel 34.1 at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 5 and re-airs on 34.1 at 12 p.m. on Sunday, June 7.

The episode will repeat at 11 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 6 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 7 on WNIT INFocus Channel 34.2.
