Deal to purchase land for consolidated courthouse approved in Elkhart County

County Commissioners have agreed on a site, and approved the deal to purchase it. Should things go as planned the new consolidated courts would be near the corner of Old Cr. 17 and US 33 on a 32 acre site that is directly adjacent to the CR. 17 overpass.

A 2019 study suggested consolidating the county courts to one building because of inherent inadequacies in the current locations in downtown Elkhart and Goshen. The County Council needs to approve the funding.

The new building is slated to be about 170,000 sq ft with 300 parking spaces and will need to be able to handle about 200 employees. The purchase price is $585,000
