A South Bend coaching legend has passed away.

Dave Dunlap who coached swimming at both South Bend Jackson and Riley high schools died Saturday at his home.

He was 78.

The South Bend Tribune reports the swim programs at both schools under Dunlap became state powerhouses, resulting in three state titles and seven second-place finishes. His final championship came in his final year as a coach and teacher, in 1995. His record between the schools was 357 wins and only 41 losses.
