NIPSCO will offer payment plans to help customers in most dire need

(J. Tyler Klassen/Elkhart Truth)

NIPSCO says there will still be options for customers beyond the statewide moratorium on disconnects that’s coming on August 14.

The utility says there are flexible options and assistance funds available beyond that date, when the moratorium ends on disconnecting electric and natural gas service during the pandemic.

NIPSCO says they are committed to helping those most in need, and are providing their most flexible payment plan. The company voluntarily suspended late payment charges and shutoffs for nonpayment in early March, before the statewide mandate.

They say the number of customers behind on their bill is less than it was a year ago, but the amount owed by some customers has accumulated.
