If you are worried about being able to afford all your child’s school supplies, this Saturday is an opportunity you can’t miss. Families will have the opportunity to pick up a backpack full of school supplies and other goodies to start your child’s year off right. At a time when help is needed by many, the community has come together to offer support.

Elkhart Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Minority Health Coalition of Elkhart County to provide free backpacks to each child that arrives. The drive, set up for school-age children, will begin at 10 a.m. and go until supplies run out. Limited to one backpack per child and the child must be present to receive it.

The giveaway will take place at Tolson Community Center located at 1320 Benham Avenue. In order to maintain social distancing, it is set up as a drive thru, those taking part are asked to enter by way of Wagner Street heading west and volunteers will bring the backpacks to their cars.

This event is graciously supported by Riveroaks church and sponsored by the Community Foundation of Elkhart County and Meijer.

For more information, community members can call Elkhart Parks and Recreation at 574-295-7275.
