Beware scams targeting Amazon customers in Indiana

Police in Lake County are asking people to look out for scams targeting Amazon customers in Indiana.

People in St. John have gotten messages saying their accounts have and any pending orders have been placed on hold until their billing information can be verified, said St. John police.

The message warns people that if they fail to complete the verification process in three days they will be blocked from their account and all pending orders will be canceled.

Amazon customers have gotten messages by mail, email and by text, with a link that leads people to a website that looks like Amazon. However, it’s actually a data mining site used to steal peoples’ banking information.

Police say to not click any of the links, and if they do receive a message to contact Amazon directly at their customer service number.
