Victims of deadly double shooting at Waterford Glen Apartments identified

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating a shooting at Waterford Glen Apartments in South Bend.

A massive police presence, with officers from several agencies, including South Bend, Mishawaka, St. Joseph County and the Indiana State Police were called to the complex in the 3000 block of Edison Road and Woodfield Drive around 11:45 last (Thu) night.

Two people were shot. One was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to the hospital where he died. The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Malik Balderos and 20-year-old Ricky Kinds Jr.

So far, there is no word of any arrests.

St. Joseph County Metro Homicide released the following information about the shooting:

Late last evening 10-22-20 at approximately 11:45 p.m. South Bend Police were called to the Waterford Glen Apartment complex near Edison and Woodfield Dr. in South Bend for reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, officers located two male victims who were suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of those individuals was transported from the scene to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The second victim was located inside an apartment and pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of these persons will be reported once we’re certain next of kin has been notified. There are no suspects at this time in custody. We are continuing to interview witnesses and process the scene.
