Marcellus man hospitalized after crash in Volinia Township

A 61-year-old man from Marcellus was injured in a crash in Cass County. It happened just after 12:30, Tuesday afternoon, on Marcellus Highway, west of Decatur Road, in Volinia Township. Sheriff’s investigators say the man suffered a medical injury while he was driving. He left the road and struck a tree. He was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend for treatment.

The following information about the collision was sent to 95.3 MNC from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office:

Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reports his office investigated a single vehicle crash on Marcellus Hwy, west of Decatur Rd, Volinia Twp., Cass County, Michigan on 11/10/2020 at 12:35 Hrs.
Emergency Personnel responded to the scene and found that a 61-year-old man from Marcellus, Michigan had suffered a medical emergency while driving.  Stratton left the roadway, striking a tree.  Stratton was transported from the scene to Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana for treatment.
Stratton was wearing a seatbelt and airbags did deploy.  Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in this crash.
Assisting at the scene were Dowagiac Fire Department, Wayne Twp. Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance.
This crash remains under investigation at this time.
