The NCAA says they are looking into staging the entire 68-team men’s basketball tournament in one geographic location in March and April.
Negotiations have begun to make that place the City of Indianapolis.
NCAA Committee Chair Mitch Barnhart says watching other sports leagues stage their championships in a single location helped drive the decision. In the interest of safety for players and support staff, a centralized location for the tournament is preferred.
Senior VP Dan Gavitt says Indy tops the list, but there’s a lot of work to do before it’s settled. Gavitt says the league already has a strong relationship with the city, which is one of the factors that makes the city the lead candidate.
