Benton Harbor woman, 24, clocked driving 116 mph with child in vehicle

A Benton Harbor mother is in the Miami County Jail on multiple charges after an off-duty Indiana State Trooper was driving on U.S. 31 in rural Miami County and observed a car approaching him at extremely high speed.

He clocked the car at 116 miles per hour and initiated a traffic stop.

As the trooper approached the car, he observed a one-year-old girl, sleeping on the front passenger seat. The child was unrestrained with no safety seat or seatbelt.

The child’s mother, Destanie Maree-Daryell Washington, 24, was arrested on charges of neglect of a dependent, public endangerment, driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.
