Elkhart man charged in violent July Stabbing

The stabbing happened on July 16th. The victim was staying with a friend on West Marion Street when she awoke to find a man she knew only by the nickname “Smoke”, holding her down and threatening to kill her if she didn’t give him money.

Initially she was stabbed in the arm and chest. She eventually convinced him the money was at another residence; he dragged her to that home and stabbed her again when nobody answered. She then escaped to another home where someone called police.

Through information from the friend police were able to identify “Smoke” as 38 year old Jessie Styles. Styles’ charges include robbery resulting in injury, criminal confinement, and strangulation.

The victim also suffered a partially collapsed lung in the attack. Read more here with The Elkhart Truth
