Suspects in deadly shooting at Waterford Glen Apartments charged with murder

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office filed charges on Friday, Dec. 18, in connection with a St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit investigation.

Dijon Davis and Darius Vaughn were arrested Dec. 16, in connection with a shooting that occurred on Oct. 22 at Waterford Glen Apartments in South Bend, and resulted in
the deaths of Malik Balderos, 21, and Ricky Kinds, Jr., 20.

Dijon Marcus Davis, 18 of South Bend, is charged with:

  • Count I: Aiding, Inducing, or Causing Murder a Felony
  • Count II: Conspiracy to Commit Murder a Level 1 Felony
  • Davis is also charged with a Felony Firearm Sentencing Enhancement and a Criminal
    Gang Sentencing Enhancement.

Darius Jamal Vaughn, 19 of South Bend, is charged with:

  • Count I: Aiding, Inducing, or Causing Murder a Felony
  • Count II: Conspiracy to Commit Murder a Level 1 Felony
  • Vaughn is also charged with a Criminal Gang Sentencing Enhancement.

The sentencing range for Murder is 45 to 65 years. The sentencing range for a Level 1
Felony is 20 to 40 years. A Felony Firearm Sentencing Enhancement can add an additional
5 to 20 years to the sentence of the underlying offense. A Criminal Gang Sentencing
Enhancement doubles the sentence for the underlying felony or felonies.
