Man injured in shooting early Sunday morning in Benton Township

A man was hospitalized after being struck by gunfire inside a home in Benton Township.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, in the 2000 block of East Empire.

The 28-year-old victim suffered wounds to his hand and leg.

There was no immediate word about any suspects, arrests or the circumstances that led to the shooting.

The following information was released by the Benton Township Police Department:

On Sunday, January 10th, 2021, at 0325 hours, officers of the Benton Township Police Department were dispatched to 2088 E. Empire Lot 225 for a report of multiple shots being fired. While enroute, officers were notified that a male subject inside the house had been struck by the bullets. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, who had suffered gun shot wounds to his hand and leg. The victim was transported by Medic 1 Ambulance to Spectrum Health Lakeland for the non-life threatening injuries. Benton Township Police have not located the suspect(s) at this time.
