City of South Bend reminds property owners to clear walkways of snow, ice

If you’re a business owner, make sure your sidewalks and disabled parking spaces are clear of snow and ice.

That’s the message from the City of South Bend, which says walkways and parking spaces must remain clear and accessible during snow and ice conditions for offices, commercial buildings, retail places, professional service centers and any other public building.

By local ordinance, property owners must clear sidewalks within 24 hours of snowfall.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) also specifies that any public place must be accessible to disabled persons.
