Michigan State Police: Be ready for winter roads with a few simple tips

(Jon Zimney/95.3 MNC)

With winter weather descending on the region, the Michigan State Police are reminding drivers to drive slow on the ice and snow.

Troopers say there were 402 fatalities and 2,699 serious injuries on slick winter roads between 2015 and 2019.

They say it’s easy to blame the weather but drivers have to take responsibility for winter driving safety, which is easy to do by following a few simple tips.

They urge motorists to keep their cars well-maintained, be sure to clear off snow and ice that could slide onto cleared windows from the hood or roof, and be sure to keep the car supplied for an emergency.

It’s also a good idea to make sure you know how to safely follow a snowplow.
