Dunes Learning Center taking applications for two internships

If you love the outdoors the Dunes Learning Center is looking for interns for the on-campus programs they hope to relaunch this summer.

Do you love exploring the outdoors? Would you like to inspire curiosity, scientific literacy and environmental stewardship through hands-on learning? Dunes Learning Center employment offers opportunities for individuals to use their skills and enthusiasm to change lives.

November 20, 2020 Note: Due to the pandemic, we are not currently hosting on-campus programs. We are planning to re-start on-campus programs in Summer 2021. The application process is now open for these two internship positions which begin training in June 2021.

Internship: Summer Cabin Leader
(June-August 2021)
Develop your outdoor education skills while providing meaningful experiences for campers during summer camp. You’ll have the opportunity to shadow National Park Service rangers and naturalists during the day, while you supervise campers overnight in your cabin and lead activities including meals, flag raising, campfires, games, and hikes. (Age 18+, enrolled in a college program)

Internship: Interpretive Naturalist
(June 2021-May 2022)
Develop your naturalist, outdoor education, and resource interpretation skills and techniques through this 12-month (June-May) program that offers intensive training in partnership with the National Park Service. As a key member of the program delivery team, you will teach children and adults about the diversity of ecosystems, plants and animals, and the cultural history of Indiana Dunes National Park and the southern Lake Michigan region. (College graduates)

Part-Time Kitchen Worker
The Kitchen Worker is responsible for the preparation of meals, routine kitchen duties, and cleaning of the kitchen and equipment. This service-oriented, part-time position offers flexible days and hours that vary with program reservations. Download the position announcement >
