The Hilltop Restaurant is back

After a devastating fire more than two years ago, an Elkhart County restaurant is back.

The popular Hilltop Restaurant had a grease fire in September of 2018, shortly before they were due to celebrate their 40th anniversary. The Elkhart Truth reports that, thankfully, everyone got out and no one was injured. But it was clear that the place was going to have to be rebuilt.

Finding a site to do so was a challenge, and the family who owned the business found a spot on West Wayne Street.

They reopened last Tuesday to a massive response from the community, and are surviving the COVID restrictions — and their smaller dining room — with carry out and support from their fans.
