Almost 2,000 without power near downtown Elkhart Friday

Almost 2,000 Elkhart residents are without power following what’s being reported as a “transformer fire” near downtown this morning.

It began just before 4 a.m., and Indiana Michigan Power estimates power to be restored around Noon Friday.

So far, no details have been released on the cause or severity of the fire.

This was not a transformer fire, this was a 17Kv line that broke and hit the ground. I have video of the line arching and burning the ground
