Man formally charged after shooting on Roosevelt St. in South Bend

A man has been charged in connection with a shooting that happened last weekend in the 800 block of Roosevelt.

It was around 1:20 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, when shots were reported in the area of Roosevelt and Cushing.

Shortly after that, South Bend Police were called to Memorial Hospital for a shooting victim with non-life-threatening injuries.

It was believed a possible suspect was inside a home in the 800 block of Roosevelt and the SWAT and Negotiating Team was activated.

Eventually, two people came out of the home and were detained. One of those individuals was James Smith Jr.

Smith Jr. was formally charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, Attempted Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Recklessness and Dealing in Marijuana.
