An explosion at a Michigan High School injured 5 students and a teacher in Newaygo, northeast of Muskegon.

A 16 year-old accidentally detonated a device in a classroom, according to police who were called to the scene shortly before 9 a.m. Monday.

A press release from the Newaygo Public Schools says the student “brought a homemade explosive device into the classroom.” The student and four others were taken to a hospital. The teacher was also treated for injuries.

On Tuesday the student’s father, 33 year-old David Saylor, was charged with a count of manufacture or possession of a Molotov cocktail and a count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
