Mishawaka school community mourning loss of teacher, coach Gregg Smith

Former Mishawaka High School teacher and coach Gregg Smith has died.

The school’s athletic department called Smith’s death, Monday, the result of a tragic accident.

According to the announcement, Smith was a 1993 graduate of Mishawaka High School where he was a standout wrestler and football player.

He spent nearly three decades coaching Cavemen athletes from the Mishawaka Youth Football League, John Young Middle School, to Mishawaka High School, where he was the defensive coordinator and most recently Director of Football Operations in 2019.

Smith led the National Honor Society, was Science Department Chair and teacher at Mishawaka High School and, this year, worked as an Administrative Intern.

He leaves behind his wife and two sons.
