Two men arrested after home invasion, assault in Niles

Two people were arrested after an alleged home invasion and armed robbery that happened last month.

It was around 10:20 p.m. on Feb. 25, when Niles Police were called to an apartment complex in the 700 block of Broadway Street on the report of a home invasion and a shot fired.

On arrival, police found two men who were allegedly assaulted during the invasion.

The victims said they were also allegedly robbed of marijuana, cash, and personal property by two people who were armed with a knife and a gun.

Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment from the assault.

A third victim who was also assaulted left the apartment before police arrived, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

Investigators identified two suspects, 46-year-old Randy McGrath, 46, and 45-year-old Larry Sarters, 45, and obtained search warrants for their homes.

During the searches, last week, investigators found a handgun, marijuana, and cash.

Detectives said it’s believed the incident may have been in response to the victims stealing marijuana and other items from the suspects.

Both McGrath and Sarters face home invasion, armed robbery and great bodily harm charges.

Someone should inform Congressman Fred Upsidedown that people need their guns to protect themselves even in Niles Michigan.
