Niles special education teacher arrested after alleged assaults on students

A Niles Special Education teacher is out on bond after being arrested on charges of assaulting two students.

Sara Irons was arrested last week after she turned herself into Niles Police on a warrant for assault and battery, according to the Niles Daily Star.

The charges stem from three separate incidents against two students at Southside School.

Investigators say Irons pulled a student’s ear in one of the incidents. In another, she wrapped herself around a student while trying to take a cellphone away, the Niles Daily Star reported.

Irons was placed on paid administrative leave while the district investigated the three incidents.

Last year, she received a service award for 25 years of service to the Niles district.
