Osceola woman, 35, accused of distributing fake prescription painkillers

An Osceola woman is accused of passing off over-the-counter pills as prescription painkillers while working as a nurse in Elkhart.

An investigation into Laura Nichols, 35, resulted from a patient’s claims to the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit in the Indiana Attorney General’s Office.

Among other things, the patient said she was given over-the-counter acetaminophen and told it was oxycodone during a trip to Elkhart General Hospital last summer.

95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth report Nichols is charged with interference with medical services by a licensed health care provider, obtaining a controlled substance by fraud and furnishing fraudulent information.
