Elkhart Police Department impersonated in new scam

(Photo supplied/ABC 57)

The Elkhart Police Department is warning of a scam.

Tuesday the EPD started receiving calls and in-person complaints about a suspect calling the victim and claiming they have missed court or jury duty and a warrant has been issued. They then explain that the victim can pay for the warrant by transferring money to a designated account. The scammers use names and the address of the Department.

The Elkhart Police remind everyone that business of this sort would never be done over the phone.
