The Niles social district could be up and running by the end of the month.

The city and state previously approved the boundaries of the area where you could walk around with an adult beverage. It encompasses downtown plus parts of the river walk.

In that district, you’ll have to buy alcohol from specially licensed businesses in a marked cup.

On Monday night City Council approved permits for Niles Brewing Company, Iron Shoe Distillery, and The Brass Eye.

They must now get state approval.

Three more businesses are eligible to get the social district liquor licenses. The hours of the social district would be 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The city is still working on getting signage prepared, but the district could be ready by late May.

Make sure you ask the government for permission to walk around with a beverage you purchased, and it’s also vital that you only use their vendors so the government gets their cut. It’s quite mafia-esque.

Sin taxes are abhorrent.
